Gold price today is near 3,999 on the Vantage XAUUSD CFD, below its 50-period and 200-period averages. The Fed held at 3.75% to 4.00% on a 10-2 vote, and oil above $100 appears to be feeding December hike pricing rather than safe-haven demand this week.

Gold Price Checklist, 09:52 (GMT+8) on 30 October 2026

  • Price: Vantage XAUUSD CFD at 3,999.43, down 0.54% on the 4-hour candle.
  • Moving averages: 4H 50-period at 4,056.10 and 4H 200-period at 4,175.75.
  • Momentum: RSI(14) at 40.46 on the TradingView setup used for this analysis.
  • Macro: Fed held on a 10-2 vote; US Q3 GDP grew 3.4% annualised; September PCE inflation ran 3.6% year on year.
  • Next: US Nonfarm Payrolls on 6 November and US CPI on 10 November.

Key takeaways

  • Vantage XAUUSD CFD traded at 3,999.43 at 09:52 (GMT+8) on 30 October 2026, below its 4H 50-period (4,056.10) and 200-period (4,175.75) averages.
  • The Federal Reserve held its range at 3.75% to 4.00% on 28 October on a 10-2 vote; two members preferred a 25 basis point hike.[1]
  • US Q3 GDP grew 3.4% annualised, September PCE inflation ran 3.6%, while December hike odds ranged from about 75% to 84% across reports this week.[2,3,7,11]

I expected $100 oil and a Middle East conflict to do gold a favour this week. The chart disagreed. Gold prices today sit just under $4,000: the Vantage XAUUSD CFD traded at 3,999.43 at 09:52 (GMT+8) on 30 October 2026, down 0.54% on the 4-hour candle, after first slipping through that mark on 23 October, gold’s worst week in more than four months according to investinglive.[4]

So here is the puzzle: why does $100 oil appear to feed the Fed’s hike debate instead of the safe-haven bid, and what does that change about the risk picture into the 6 November jobs report? Oil is a two-way street for gold. It raises fear, which helps, and it raises inflation, which has been the louder voice. The Vantage XAUUSD price was 3,999.43 as of 09:52 (GMT+8); our gold price news archive covers the slide from near 4,695 in August.

Gold price chart today: the 50-period line capped the bounce

This xauusd technical analysis today doubles as our xauusd analysis today: it starts with the xauusd chart on the 4-hour timeframe. Price sat about 57 points under the 4H 50-period moving average (4,056.10) and 176 under the 4H 200-period (4,175.75). The 50-period line has been below the 200-period since roughly mid-September, a death cross.

A wick near 4,080 poked above the 50-period line this week and finished back below it: a ceiling, in the past tense. That zone held the 7 October and mid-October swing lows, so the market spent the week testing a former floor from underneath. The mid-October rebound to about 4,172 that we covered in our 19 October analysis never got back there.

The RSI read 40.46 on the TradingView setup used for this analysis, with its smoothing line at 48.39. It sat in the high teens around 23 October, the lowest reading on this chart since early August, no longer oversold but still below 50. A bounce without a turn: that is the gold price chart in one sentence. The chart shows the pressure; it does not say where it came from.

Gold news today: oil is feeding the Fed, not the safe-haven bid

Start with the Fed. The committee kept the federal funds range at 3.75% to 4.00% on 28 October, voting 10-2, with Lisa D. Cook and Beth M. Hammack preferring a 25 basis point increase. The statement called activity strong and inflation elevated, six weeks after the Fed’s first hike since July 2023.[1,7]

US real GDP grew an annualised 3.4% in the third quarter, up from 2.2% in the second.[2] September’s PCE price index rose 3.6% on the year, with core at 3.1%.[3] Our 21 October gold note had already flagged an inflation gap worth a second look.

Oil is the connective tissue, with a caveat. WTI settled near $102 and Brent at $114.88 on 29 October, slightly lower on US-Iran diplomacy hopes after gains on 28 October.[8] The 10-year Treasury yield hovered around 5%,[11] after our 20 October note tracked the 10-year rising to 5.15% by 19 October. For a non-yielding asset, that is a real cost of carry. Fox Business, citing CME FedWatch, put December hike odds near 78% on 27 October and near 83% after the decision. FXStreet later cited about 81%, then near 75% late on 29 October, so verify on CME, as it moves hourly.[7,11] We flagged the oil-to-Fed link in our 14 October analysis.

The part the headlines skip: the same oil shock that should lift safe-haven demand appears to be lifting rate expectations faster. It is not the only voice: crude eased on 29 October, yet gold still fell about 1.2% to near $4,016 after GDP growth of 3.4% beat the 3.2% forecast and core PCE ran at 3.1%, so growth data appears to be doing part of the work.[8,11]

The same oil shock that should raise fear appears to be raising rate expectations faster.

Gold futures price, ETFs and the 4,000 floor debate

The gold futures price and gold spot price appear to reflect the same repricing of hike odds. FXStreet had spot gold down about 1.2% to near $4,016 on 29 October.[11] Gold ETFs took a record $31 billion in the third quarter, lifting holdings to a record 4,256 tonnes at the end of September, according to the World Gold Council.[10] Our 16 October piece tracked that record.

Analysts see support, with caveats. UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo wrote in a 23 October note that gold “may retest support around USD 4,000/oz” in the near term, and expected structural demand to establish a floor there.[9] Nicky Shiels of MKS PAMP was quoted by Reuters on 1 October saying “The real-yield framework still anchors fair value”, a reminder that the 5% yield backdrop matters.[5] Our gold trading guide explains why round numbers like 4,000 attract attention.

Gold price forecast and prediction: the wide gap

Weeks like this send readers hunting for a gold price forecast, gold price prediction, xauusd forecast, xauusd prediction today or gold price outlook, with xauusd investing questions close behind. The most-quoted bank note pre-dates the drop. Goldman Sachs analyst Lina Thomas trimmed the bank’s year-end 2026 fair-value estimate to $4,650 from $4,900 on 18 September and warned that a “significantly more hawkish Fed path could generate a sharper-than-usual correction.”[6]

Vantage XAUUSD CFD traded about 14% below that year-end figure at the stamp. Forecasts cannot be guaranteed; read them as inputs, not instructions.

Table 1: Levels traders are watching as of 09:52 (GMT+8) on 30 October 2026. Sources: TradingView setup used for this analysis; Vantage CFD feed. Indicative only.

  • US Employment Cost Index, Fri 30 Oct, 20:30 (GMT+8); Bank of Japan decision and Outlook Report, Fri 30 Oct: check the BoJ release page for the decision time.
  • US Nonfarm Payrolls, Fri 6 Nov, 21:30 (GMT+8): the first jobs print after a Fed vote citing strong activity.
  • US CPI, Tue 10 Nov, 21:30 (GMT+8): the inflation read behind December hike pricing.

The read weakens if Vantage XAUUSD CFD closes back above the 4,056 area on the 4-hour chart or December hike pricing drops sharply. Back to the opening puzzle: for now, oil appears to be working on the Fed’s side of the scale.

Gold has moved inside roughly 105 points, near 3,975 to near 4,080, since 23 October. A Stop Loss is a seatbelt, not a force field: it can help limit a loss to a planned size, but a gap can fill it at a worse price.

Leverage, such as 1:1000, is double-edged: it can magnify potential returns and potential losses relative to the capital committed. At the same 1% of equity at risk, halving the Stop Loss distance roughly doubles position size.
