  • Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) closed at $913.91 on 21 October 2026, about 17% below its early-October high on the hourly chart and above its 15 October low of $858.00.
  • Memory stocks fell in mid-October after China’s CXMT reported progress on a new chip structure, two weeks after Micron reported record quarterly revenue of $54.23 billion.
  • Micron signed an agreement with its Taichung union on 21 October, and its Taoyuan union began a 24-hour strike at 09:00 (GMT+8) on 22 October.

Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) stock closed at $913.91 on 21 October 2026, roughly 17% below its early-October high, three weeks after the company reported a record $54.23 billion quarter and guided higher. 1 For a company that makes memory, the market’s recall of that quarter was short.

As of 09:47 (GMT+8) on 22 October 2026, MU last closed at $913.91 on Nasdaq, about 2% higher on the session, and an overnight quote on the TradingView chart used for this analysis stood at $896.85; the 52-week range ran from $187.42 to $1,255.00 as of 16 October. 2

That gap between record results and a falling share price is what this piece unpacks: what moved Micron stock more than the quarter did, and what it changes about the risk picture for MU share CFD positions into next week’s Fed decision and SK hynix results. For traders in Asia the timing adds a layer, because news from Taiwan or Seoul during the Asian day reaches the CFD price only at the next US open.

Record Quarter, Lower Share Price

Micron reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $54.23 billion on 30 September, up from $41.46 billion in the prior quarter and $11.32 billion a year earlier. Full-year revenue reached $133.19 billion, against $37.38 billion in fiscal 2025.

Guidance pointed higher again. Micron guided fiscal first-quarter 2027 revenue to $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion, with non-GAAP earnings per share (EPS) of $38.15, plus or minus $1.00. Chief executive Sanjay Mehrotra said the company expects “an even stronger fiscal 2027.”

On 8 October the board raised its share repurchase authorisation to $35.16 billion, with repurchases permitted from 9 December under its CHIPS Act funding agreements. 3 Results, guidance, and a larger capital-return programme all arrived in a little over a week.

So the usual explanation for a falling share price, a weak quarter, does not fit here. The hourly chart shows the shares easing from 2 October and the decline gathering pace from 8 October, and CNBC described the wider sell-off in memory names as sparked by worries over artificial intelligence (AI) financing and intensifying competition. 4 The bigger push came from a Chinese rival on 12 October.

China’s CXMT Shifted the Memory Debate

Memory shares fell on 12 and 13 October after China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) reported progress on a new chip structure. 4 Micron dropped about 4% during the 13 October session, with Sandisk and SK hynix also lower and the Roundhill Memory ETF down nearly 5%. 5

On the hourly chart, the 13 October session opened near $950, below a 12 October close near $990. That left a gap the price had not traded back into by the cut-off.

By 15 October, CNBC counted five-day declines of 26% for SK hynix, 22% for Samsung Electronics, and about 11% for Micron. 6 The same report cited a South Korean newspaper column that suggested memory could be oversupplied by 2029, which added a timing question to the competition one. 6 A column about 2029 added pressure to a 2026 share price, which says something about how far ahead this market was looking.

Not every reading was the same. Vey-Sern Ling of Union Bancaire Privée (UBP) told CNBC that investors appeared to be looking for reasons to lock in gains on AI-related stocks, and that Chinese memory makers still faced technology hurdles in the short run, especially in high-bandwidth memory (HBM). 4

In plain terms: the market did not appear to be marking down the quarter Micron reported on 30 September. It appeared to be repricing how long the current memory shortage lasts. Memory has a long record of boom-and-bust cycles, and CNBC framed the open question as whether that pattern is changing this time. 6

Competition is a story about more supply later. Taiwan supplied a story about supply right now.

Taiwan Strike Tests the Supply Story

Taiwan is a central production base for Micron’s DRAM and HBM chips, and the company employs about 15,000 people there. 7 A union at its Taoyuan operations secured strike authorisation in early October, with 1,994 members, or 99% of ballots cast, voting in favour over a dispute about the bonus scheme. 8

On 15 October, Micron opened a new advanced assembly and test facility in Taichung, where Taiwan’s president Lai Ching-te urged the company and its workers to negotiate sincerely. 9 On 21 October, Micron Memory Taiwan and its Taichung union signed an agreement and withdrew from mediation set for 22 October, without disclosing the terms. 7

MU rose about 2% in pre-market trading that day as the Taichung deal was reported. 10 Talks with the Taoyuan union on the same afternoon ended without a deal, and the union said its officers would strike for 24 hours from 09:00 (GMT+8) on 22 October at the site gate. 11 How far the action affects output was not clear at the cut-off; the union also planned a member vote on a proposal the company was due to present at a 10:00 staff meeting. 11

That reaction runs against a simple scarcity story. Both October headlines turn the same dial, supply, in opposite directions: CXMT points to more chips later, a strike to fewer chips now. If scarcity alone set Micron’s value, a strike threat in a tight market might have read as supportive. Instead, the shares rose on the morning Micron settled with the union at its largest Taiwan operation. 7 One reading is that the market values Micron’s ability to ship more than the shortage itself.

October’s slide appeared to price how long the memory shortage lasts, not how big the last quarter was.

Those two stories left a clear footprint on the hourly chart.

MU Stock Chart Sits Below Its Averages

On the hourly chart, MU set a high near $1,105 on 2 October and fell to $858.00 on 15 October, a drop of about 22% from high to low. The check: $1,105 minus $858 is $247, and $247 divided by $1,105 is 22.35%.

Price closed 21 October at $913.91, just under the hourly 50-period moving average (MA) at $916.37 and below the hourly 200-period MA at $1,003.91, as of 09:47 (GMT+8) on 22 October. The 50-period line crossed under the 200-period line around 14 October and had flattened toward price by the cut-off.

Momentum reset. The 14-period Relative Strength Index (RSI) from the TradingView setup used for this analysis fell to about 20 on 13 and 15 October, below the 30 line many chart readers treat as oversold. At the cut-off it read 50.07, against its own average of 48.38. A reading of 50 is the indicator’s version of a shrug.

Since 16 October, price has held a range of roughly $875 to $935, with the 21 October session high near $928. The 200-period MA sits exactly $90 above the last close, a ceiling the hourly candles have not touched since 9 October.

Micron Earnings Date and Next Catalysts

Micron had not confirmed its next results date at the cut-off. The quarter covered by its $61.5 billion guidance began after fiscal 2026 closed on 3 September, 1 and the date appears on Micron’s investor relations site once set. Coverage of the release runs in earnings news today.

When the print lands, two numbers carry the October debate: revenue against the $61.5 billion midpoint, and gross margin against guidance of about 86%. 1 A pricing comment on DRAM matters as much as either, given the CXMT questions.

  • Taoyuan Strike, 22 to 23 October: The union’s 24-hour action runs to 09:00 (GMT+8) on 23 October, alongside a member vote on the company’s proposal. 11
  • SK hynix Q3 Results Call, 28 October: 09:00 Seoul time, or 08:00 (GMT+8). 12 It is the first full quarterly report from a major memory maker since the CXMT headlines; see SK hynix news.
  • FOMC Decision, 28 October: The statement is due at 14:00 (ET), which is 02:00 (GMT+8) on 29 October, inside US cash hours for the Nasdaq 100. 13 Times are on the economic calendar.
  • Samsung Electronics Q3 Results, 29 October: Full results follow the preliminary guidance Samsung published on 8 October, before the CXMT headlines. 14
  • Micron Dividend, 29 October: $0.15 per share is payable to holders of record on 14 October, the ex-dividend date shown by the “D” marker on Figure 1. 1
  • Micron Fiscal Q1 2027 Results, Date to Be Confirmed: Guidance of $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion, is the yardstick. 1

A few questions come up every time MU moves like this.

Micron Stock Questions, Answered

What Is the Micron Stock Price Today?

Micron stock last closed at $913.91 on 21 October 2026, and an overnight quote stood at $896.85 as of 09:47 (GMT+8) on 22 October. The live MU CFD quote on the trading platform moves through the US session and differs from these figures.

When Is the MU Stock Earnings Date?

Micron had not confirmed its fiscal first-quarter 2027 results date at the cut-off. Its guidance for that quarter is revenue of $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion. 1

How Is Micron Stock Valued After a Record Year?

One simple yardstick: four times the guided EPS midpoint of $38.15 is $152.60, and $913.91 divided by $152.60 is about 6.0 times. Memory earnings have historically swung with chip prices, 6 so a multiple on guided earnings says little about how long those earnings last. The arithmetic takes ten seconds; the cycle question took most of October.

Overnight Gaps and Leverage on MU CFDs

Micron stock entered October with a record quarter behind it and spent the next three weeks giving back about 17%, while a China competition headline and a Taiwan labour dispute pulled the supply story in opposite directions. The read that markets are pricing the length of the cycle rather than the last quarter weakens if SK hynix on 28 October, or Micron at its next results, reports DRAM pricing holding up despite new Chinese capacity. A longer stoppage in Taoyuan would put near-term supply back at the centre instead.

MU CFDs trade during US market hours, currently 21:30 to 04:00 (GMT+8) and one hour later after US clocks change on 1 November, so news from Taiwan or Seoul during the Asian day reaches the CFD price only at the next open. On 22 October, the overnight quote already sat 1.87% below the prior close. A Stop Loss can limit a loss to a planned size in normal conditions, but a gap at the open can fill it at a worse price than the level set.

Leverage magnifies gains and losses alike. At 1:33.3, the maximum leverage listed in Vantage’s MU contract specifications (availability varies by entity), a 3% move in the share price equals about 100% of the margin posted, and a move the size of October’s 22% high-to-low decline equals more than seven times that margin. Sizing positions as a percentage of account equity, rather than by available margin, is one common way traders cap what a single gap can do to an account; see how stock CFDs work.
