Key Takeaways

  • Palantir stock fell 7.22% to $186.03 on 16 October as AI-linked software shares dropped; the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.15%. 1
  • PLTR rose 4.36% on 19 October as Palantir and Knox Systems announced a federal cloud partnership, then closed at $192.60 on 20 October. 2,3
  • Palantir reports Q3 2026 results on 2 November after the US close, against revenue guidance of $2.160 billion to $2.164 billion. 4,5

Palantir stock (NASDAQ: PLTR) closed at $192.60 on 20 October, 9.55% below the $212.94 high it hit eight days earlier. 2,6 Its latest quarterly report showed revenue up 93% year on year. 4 None of Palantir’s own releases since then pointed to a slowdown, yet as of 09:55 (GMT+8) on 21 October 2026, the gap was still open.

We went looking for the culprit and found it in the sector: on 16 October, doubts over how the AI build-out gets financed knocked software shares. 1,7 This Palantir stock analysis covers why PLTR fell harder than the market and what the rebound left unrepaired.

The latest Palantir stock quote, and the PLTR stock price today before the Asia session: a $192.60 close, down 0.80%, as of 09:55 (GMT+8) on 21 October. 2

Why Did Palantir Stock Fall?

Palantir stock fell 7.22% to $186.03 on 16 October as worries over how AI spending gets financed hit software shares, with no company news behind it. PLTR rose 4.36% on 19 October alongside a Knox Systems partnership, but momentum stayed weak before 2 November results.

AI Financing Fears Hit Software Stocks

Palantir stood at the front of the queue, with the steepest fall among large software names: 6 7.22%, more than three times the Nasdaq Composite‘s 2.15%. 1 In a 45-stock Yahoo Finance basket, software stocks lost more than $260 billion during the session. 8

The worry was funding, not demand: doubts over who pays for AI infrastructure feed straight into the valuations of Palantir, ServiceNow, and Salesforce 7 A Goldman Sachs note that week said hedge funds had cut AI stock holdings at the second-fastest pace in over a year, calling it a “tactical rotation” away from smaller AI names. 1

Not everyone agreed. Bank of America analysts led by Vivek Arya argued on 16 October that the AI trade remained “resilient”. 9 In a Salesforce note dismissing AI-displacement fears that week, BofA’s Tal Liani wrote: “If anything, AI should deepen dependence on these platforms”. 8

After Goldman Sachs analyst Gabriela Borges upgraded Palantir on 8 October, the stock cleared its November 2025 record. 8,10 The 16 October session reversed that breakout and left PLTR more than 10% below its 9 October record close. 8 Palantir issued no company announcement that day; 6 our PLTR stock news coverage reads it as the sector talking.

Monday brought a company headline at last, and part of the drop came back with it.

Knox Rally Lifted Price, Not Momentum

Figure 1: PLTR 1H “Price Between a Falling 50-Period MA and a Rising 200-Period MA” (TradingView, https://www.tradingview.com/symbols/NASDAQ-PLTR/) Accessed on 21 October 2026. Data indicative, for informational purposes only.

On 19 October, Knox Systems announced a partnership with Palantir for customers in Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) and Impact Level 5 (IL5) environments. 3 FedRAMP is the federal cloud security authorisation programme; IL5 is a Defense Department level for sensitive unclassified data. The Palantir stock price closed that day at $194.15, up 4.36%. 2

On the PLTR stock chart, price is parked between two averages heading in opposite directions. As of 09:55 (GMT+8) on 21 October, the 50-period moving average on the 1-hour chart (the 50-hour MA) had rolled over to about 199.34, while the 200-period line (the 200-hour MA) was still climbing at about 188.60. The faster line turned price away near 201 on 15 October, and the 19 October rally stalled near 197, below it. One falling, one rising: the lane price is parked in narrows every session.

The 14-period Relative Strength Index (RSI) on the TradingView setup used for this analysis fell to about 22 on 16 October, then bounced to around its 50 midline. It read 42.16 against its own moving average of 47.30 at the cut-off: out of the basement, still loitering on the stairs.

By the 20 October close, PLTR had won back about 45% of the 16 October drop, yet RSI stalled around 50 and the 50-hour MA kept sliding.

The rebound repaired Palantir’s price faster than its momentum: about 45% of the 16 October drop came back, and the 1-hour RSI stalled at its midline.

The next real test comes from Palantir itself.

Q3 Guidance Sets the PLTR Earnings Bar

Palantir’s own guidance gives the PLTR earnings report a clean yardstick: Q3 revenue of $2.160 billion to $2.164 billion. 4 Against Q2 revenue of $1.935 billion, the midpoint implies about 11.70% sequential growth. 4 That is our arithmetic, checked twice because tidy numbers deserve suspicion.

Full-year guidance has been raised twice since February, a 13.41% lift at the midpoint to $8.150 billion to $8.158 billion. 4,11,12 In a 1 October report, Morningstar’s Michael Hodel wrote that Palantir’s “core differentiator is its ontology framework”. 2

That is the tension the stock carries into results. The 16 October slide questioned how customers fund AI; Palantir’s latest report showed them funding it. For traders in Asia, the clock matters too: the 17:00 ET webcast lands at 06:00 (GMT+8) on 3 November, after US clocks change on 1 November. 5 After-hours repricing shows up as an opening gap for products that trade only in regular hours.

With guidance as the bar, the chart levels sit in a tight band.

Here is the Palantir stock price today against the chart’s reference points, which show where price has reacted, not where it is headed.

Any case for Palantir stock breakout potential starts with hourly closes holding above the 50-hour MA near 199.34, something PLTR has not managed since mid-October. The read weakens the other way if closes hold below 188.60 and the 16 October low near 184.45. As of the cut-off, neither had happened on our technical analysis read.

What to Watch Before 2 November

For PLTR news today and Palantir stock news today into results, here is our checklist:

  • FOMC Decision, 29 October 2026: 14:00 ET on 28 October, or 02:00 (GMT+8) on 29 October, the first rate call since the software slide. 13
  • Palantir Q3 2026 Results, 2 November 2026: After the US close; revenue against guidance and any full-year change come first. 4,5
  • 50-Hour MA, Ongoing: Hourly closes against the line near 199.34 show whether momentum has caught up with price.

PLTR Stock FAQ: Earnings, Ticker, and Forecast

When Are PLTR Earnings for Q3 2026?

Monday 2 November after the US close; the webcast is at 06:00 (GMT+8) on 3 November. 5

Is the PLTR Ticker on the NYSE or Nasdaq?

Nasdaq. Palantir moved its listing from the New York Stock Exchange and began trading on Nasdaq on 26 November 2024, keeping the PLTR ticker, 14 so searches for NYSE PLTR find the same shares at a new address.

Is There a PLTR Stock Forecast Here?

No. It is a read of the chart and news at the cut-off, not a Palantir stock forecast, and sets no price path.

Gap Risk Into Palantir Results

We started with a gap: 93% revenue growth on one side, a PLTR share price 9.55% off its high on the other. The 2 November results address Palantir’s half of it; the sector’s funding question is a separate exam.

PLTR moved 7.22% in one session on 16 October with no company news, and results after the US close add overnight gap risk. 1 A Stop Loss can limit a loss to a planned size in normal trading, but a gap past it can fill the order at a worse level.

Leverage magnifies gains and losses alike. At an illustrative 1:33.3, margin is about 3% of position value, so a 7.22% move equals roughly 2.4 times that margin. Measuring position size as a percentage of account equity shows how much of the account balance one results night could affect.
