The morning rally was narrow; the afternoon was not. Here is who carried the Nikkei 225 index, what the chart shows, and what Thursday’s Tankan tests.

Nikkei 225 Today News: Chip and AI Stocks Did the Heavy Lifting
The index closed at 65,878 on 28 September after a push above 67,000 faded, then shed 396 points to 65,481 on 29 September as many shares went ex-dividend.3
Wednesday’s Nikkei stock market session flipped the script. By 10:04 (GMT+8), SoftBank Group was up 6.23% and Tokyo Electron 3.13% as AI names followed a 1.3% gain in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index.2 SoftBank’s move came amid reports of a new OpenAI funding round.5
Daiwa Securities senior strategist Daisuke Hashizume summed up the morning: “with more stocks falling in the overall market, investors were selective on stocks.” 2
US Treasury yields had kept climbing on 29 September,2 while USDJPY slipped to 156.84 by the Tokyo close.6
That explains the demand; the chart shows its reach.
JP225 Chart: A Clean Rebound That Stayed Inside the Range

Why the Nikkei Share Index Led and the TOPIX Followed
This is a price-weighted Nikkei market index, so a few high-priced shares can move it far. At 10:04 (GMT+8), it had gained roughly double the TOPIX.2
By the afternoon, the gap had narrowed: the Nikkei index today recovered its whole two-day loss, and the TOPIX’s 1.67% gain showed demand widening beyond the AI story leading Nikkei 225 news.5
After the Bank of Japan (BoJ) lifted rates to 1.25% on 18 September,7 former BoJ executive director Kazuo Momma put the odds of an October hike at 20% to 30%, calling it “a reasonable chance that the BOJ could raise rates at consecutive meetings.” 8
That leaves the levels.

The Nikkei Stock Average Volatility Index eased to 26.41 by 14:27 (GMT+8),4 and index CFDs can gap between sessions. A Stop Loss can help limit losses to a planned size, though fast markets may fill it at a worse price.
Leverage magnifies gains and losses alike, so an adverse move can affect your account balance quickly. Sizing positions as a small share of equity helps stop one session dominating an account.
RISK WARNING: CFDs are complex financial instruments and carry a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. You should ensure you fully understand the risks involved and carefully consider whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money before trading.
