Moderna To Report Earnings Amid Waning Covid-19 Vaccine Demand
October 31,2022 15:11:17
Is demand for the Covid-19 vaccine fading? If yes, what could investors expect from Moderna Inc. during its earnings call? The Covid-19 vaccine maker is set to release its quarterly earnings results on Thursday, November 3, 2022.
How has Moderna performed so far?
Moderna was among the hottest stocks in the market when the virus emerged. The company became one of the top winners in the race to develop a vaccine. The company’s stock rallied around 2,500% from the time of its IPO in December 2018 to July 2021. However, it has been a completely different story for the drug maker since that time, with demand for Covid-19 vaccines fading in recent times.
The US and other countries around the world are seeing a decline in vaccination rates and fears over the severity of Covid-19 have also declined. These factors are expected to negatively impact Moderna and other vaccine maker stocks going forward. However, with some experts predicting another Covid-19 wave in the fall and winter, and Moderna developing a booster dose for the Omicron variant and a combination Covid-19/flu vaccine, the stock could see better days ahead.
What’s expected from Moderna for Q3?
Moderna last reported its quarterly earnings results on August 3 with its EPS of $5.24 beating analyst expectations of $4.50. Its revenue of $4.73 billion also came in above the market estimates of $3.95 billion.
Analysts, on average, are expecting the company to report quarterly earnings of $3.76 per share on revenue of $3.88 billion. Analysts at Jefferies Financial Group recently reduced their Q3 earnings estimates for Moderna. Jefferies analyst M. Yee now sees earnings of $1.77 per share, down from the earlier forecast of $4.32 per share.
