Apple Removes MT4 and MT5 from its App Store. Here’s What You Need to Know.

Apple has removed MT4 and MT5, the two most popular online trading platforms in the world, from its App Store. MetaQuotes’ MetaTrader 4 (MT4) and MetaTrader 5 (MT5) will no longer be available for iOS devices. However, devices that already have these apps installed can continue to use them. The only drawback is that future updates, upgrades and patches may not be available for these users.
Both MT4 and MT5 will, however, still be available on Desktop version and Google’s Play Store for Android devices for the moment.
Why has Apple taken such a strong stance?
It is believed that the decision to remove MT4 and MT5 from the App Store is associated with the sanctions against Russia. Apple is also removing other apps with ties to the country. Although MetaQuotes is based in Limassol, Cyprus, its CEO and founder, Renal Fatkhullin, as well as his brother, Lenar Fatkhullin, who is Marketing Director at MetaQuotes, are Russian.
How does this move impact traders?
MetaQuotes’ online trading platforms are estimated to account for more than 50% of the online trading platform market. Both MT4 and MT5 are widely accepted as the most popular trading platform among retail traders. The unavailability of the platforms on Apple devices and laptops will certainly be a disappointment for many. But the good news is that they are still available for all other operating systems, including Windows and Android. It could, therefore, leave traders to explore Android options which may backfire on Apple.
This move by Apple also gives traders an opportunity to explore other powerful trading platforms. For instance, the Vantage ProTrader platform, powered by TradingView, offers traders access to hundreds of popular indicators, along with 50+ technical drawing tools.
