Why Gold Rebounded as Oil Slipped and Fed Hike Bets Cooled – XAUUSD CFD Analysis
- XAUUSD traded at $4,170.68, $60 above Monday’s $4,111 low.
- Oil settled 2.50% lower on 29 September; 30-year yields hit a 24-year high.
Gold had every textbook reason to stay down. The US 30-year Treasury yield touched 5.62%, a level last seen in June 2002. 1 Gold climbed off the mat anyway: the XAUUSD live price read $4,170.68 at 09:51 (GMT+8) / 01:51 (UTC) on 30 September 2026.
That gap is the story: the gold price today followed oil and Fed timing, not bonds, and tonight’s Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) print tests that link.
What Is Gold Trading At Today?
As of 09:51 (GMT+8) on 30 September 2026, the XAUUSD current price is $4,170.68, about $60 above Monday’s seven-week low near $4,111. Gold recovered as oil fell 2.50% and Fed hike bets shifted from October towards December, despite US 30-year Treasury yields holding at 5.62%.
Gold’s Seven-Week Low Came With an Oil Spike and Rising Hike Bets
Monday was ugly. Gold fell nearly 4% to its lowest since 5 August, 2 in step with crude as Middle East supply worries lifted Federal Reserve (Fed) hike bets. By Tuesday, CME FedWatch put October hike odds near 70%. 3
Kotak Securities’ Kaynat Chainwala pointed to costlier energy and yields “raising the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion”. 4
On the XAUUSD chart (H1), price slid from near $4,285 to a double low near $4,111. The 14-period Relative Strength Index (RSI) in the TradingView setup used for this analysis dropped below 20.

That explains the drop, not why gold bounced while yields kept climbing.
Falling Oil and a Softer Fed Tone Lined Up With the Rebound
Then crude blinked. Oil settled 2.50% lower on 29 September, 5 as JPMorgan analysts put Middle East exports back at 98% of pre-war levels. 6 On US-Iran talks, BOK Financial’s Dennis Kissler said “both are looking for an off-ramp”. 5
New York Fed President John Williams added that “there is no need for urgency”, while still seeing one more hike this year, 7 a timing widely read as December. 8
The largest H1 recovery candle, on 29 September, lifted the XAUUSD price now from near $4,144 above the 50-period moving average (MA) at $4,158.72.
Neither support removed the reason for Monday’s slide.
The Rebound Repriced When the Fed Hikes, Not Whether It Does
What headlines skip: the slide and the rebound ran through one chain of oil, inflation expectations, and Fed timing, while yields stayed near a 24-year high. Williams still pencilled in another hike, so markets moved the date, not the direction. Postponed, yes. Cancelled, no.
The current XAUUSD price sits above the falling 50-period MA but below the 200-period MA at $4,283.76, where Monday’s slide began. RSI eased to 54.03.
For gold investment context, the gold spot price sits 25.63% below January’s $5,608.35 record.1
That hands tonight’s inflation print a direct test.

Gold had a textbook reason to stay down, and on the chart it has not. The read holds while oil stays soft and the hike sits in December; it weakens if tonight’s PCE revives October. Vantage’s XAUUSD news today, gold news today, gold news, and gold price pages follow each release.
Monday showed gold can move roughly $170 on one headline. A Stop Loss does not prevent a loss, but it limits losses to a planned size, though data-driven gaps can fill it at a worse price.
Leverage magnifies losses as well as gains, and terms vary by XAUUSD broker and account type. Many traders in gold trading size positions against account equity, not one data print; Vantage’s XAU/USD trading strategies guide explains how.
